The Central Arizona Regional Council is proud to steward Canalscape! This important initiative presents a significant opportunity to boldly shape our built environment. Canalscape uniquely intersperses urban vitality into our majestic landscape, offering an alternative to sprawl, quality places to gather, beautiful and comfortable recreational corridors, alternative transportation routes throughout the region (walking or biking instead of driving), and homegrown non-polluting energy for local use. To involve the community and bring awareness to the Canalscape effort, Arizona Forward hosted a special event on Saturday, March 1. This festival of collaboration and creativity was a memorable, fun and inspiring day. Three groups of students from St. Francis Xavier, Xavier College Preparatory, Central High School and Brophy College Preparatory showcased wonderful projects depicting visions for the Grand Canal between Central Avenue and 7th Street. Participants strolled along our Main Street, bounded around in the bounce houses, took pedi cab rides along the canal and experienced entertaining performances by students and Capoeira Arizona!
